Radiant Flames deals X damage to each non-land creature, where X is the number of colors among spells cast this turn — in a three-color Commander deck, that's a clean three-damage sweep for three mana. It's a budget board wipe that earns its slot in any multicolor shell that wants to keep the board clear without paying five or six mana to do it.

In Commander, Radiant Flames is most reliable in three-color decks where hitting three damage on turn three or four is nearly guaranteed, wiping out most early threats and token swarms. It underperforms in mono- or two-color builds where you can only reliably hit one or two damage, making it worse than a simple Pyroclasm. In Modern and Pioneer it sees fringe sideboard play in three-color control shells that want cheap sweepers against aggressive decks, though Anger of the Gods edges it out when exile matters. Legacy has better options at every point on the curve, so Radiant Flames rarely appears there. Oathbreaker mirrors the Commander read — strong in three-color, skip it in narrower builds.
