Quirion Explorer is a two-mana mana dork that taps for any color your commander's color identity allows — a meaningful upgrade over basic Forest-tappers in multicolor decks. The rate is fine; the flexibility is the whole reason to run it.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the only format where Quirion Explorer earns consistent consideration — multicolor commanders make its tap ability genuinely useful rather than a worse Llanowar Elves. In Pauper it's legal but competes with a deep pool of better common mana creatures, so it rarely makes the cut outside of specific color-fixing builds. Legacy and Vintage are legal on paper, but a 1/1 dork with no combat upside has no realistic path into those formats. Quirion Explorer lives and dies in Commander, and in three-plus-color decks with demanding pip requirements, it does exactly what you need at a low entry cost.

Price Context
Current price
$0.28 bulk tier
At $0.28, Quirion Explorer is deep bulk — you're essentially paying for the sleeve. That price is stable and unlikely to move; it's not a card with speculative upside, just a cheap piece of fixing that does its job without any financial risk.
