Quillmane Baku bounces a creature when you spend three ki counters — a repeatable Unsummon stapled to a 3/3 body, but only in decks that generate ki consistently. Outside dedicated Spirit or Arcane shells, the engine never fires and you're paying five mana for a vanilla beater.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Quillmane Baku sees essentially no competitive play across Legacy, Modern, Vintage, or Pauper — five mana for a conditional bounce effect is well below rate in any of those formats, and ki synergies have no critical mass outside Limited. Commander is the one format where it can occasionally find a home, specifically in Spirit-tribal builds running enough Arcane spells to load counters reliably. Even there, Erratic Portal or Temur Sabertooth do the repeatable-bounce job cheaper and without the setup tax.

Price Context
Current price
$0.13 bulk tier
At $0.13, Quillmane Baku is deep bulk — the kind of card that costs more to ship than to buy. That price is a floor, not a floor with upside; there's no realistic demand spike coming for a five-mana ki creature.
