Pyrrhic Revival

Pyrrhic Revival is a Commander card through and through — the symmetrical six-mana effect is built for multiplayer, where multiple opponents' graveyards amplify the payoff and the political calculus of who benefits most creates real decisions. In Legacy and Vintage it's a curiosity at best: six mana is unacceptable in formats where games end on turn two or three, and graveyard strategies in those formats use faster, more targeted recursion. Modern is similarly hostile — the mana cost and symmetry both work against it in a format that punishes expensive, non-deterministic effects. Commander is where Pyrrhic Revival earns its slot, specifically in decks that generate value from creatures entering the battlefield with counters or that want to sacrifice fodder immediately after the revival.
