Pyrotechnics deals 4 damage split freely among any number of targets for four mana — flexible reach that scales well in multiplayer. The cost is sorcery speed and no single-target efficiency; it's a sweeper-lite, not a precision tool.

In Commander, Pyrotechnics earns its slot in token-heavy metas where spreading 4 damage clears multiple x/1s or x/2s and advances your board position without burning a full wipe. Competitive formats largely ignore it — four mana at sorcery speed can't compete with Lightning Bolt or even Shard Volley in Legacy and Modern, where tempo is everything. Pauper is its most interesting non-Commander home, where removal density is lower and the flexibility of dividing damage across creatures or players has real upside. Pioneer and Vintage have no meaningful use for it given the available alternatives.
