Pyroclastic Hellion hits every opponent for 4 damage when it dies — that's 12 damage spread across three opponents without any setup. The cost is a clunky six mana for a 4/4, which means it only earns its slot in decks that can recur or sacrifice it repeatedly.

In Commander, Pyroclastic Hellion finds a home in sacrifice-loop and death-trigger shells where the 4-damage ping to each opponent becomes a legitimate win condition over several iterations. Pauper is where it's most interesting outside EDH — common-legal death triggers are limited, and the ETB-adjacent death effect scales better in a smaller-life-total format. In Modern and Legacy it's simply outclassed: six mana for a 4/4 that dies to any removal before the trigger matters is not a competitive rate. Pioneer is the same story — the effect doesn't match the mana investment in any viable shell there.

$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Pyroclastic Hellion is pure bulk — you're picking it out of a commons box, not a singles order. Bulk rares with narrow applications don't tend to move off this floor, so grab a copy if the deck calls for it and don't think twice about the cost.
