Purify the Grave exiles a single graveyard card for one white mana at instant speed, or cycles for one mana if the graveyard hate isn't relevant. It's the cleanest cheap answer to a single reanimation target or flashback threat, though it won't clear an entire yard the way Rest in Peace does.

In Commander, Purify the Grave earns a slot when you want low-cost reactive graveyard interaction that doesn't brick against irrelevant matchups — the cycling clause means it's never a dead card. Legacy and Vintage both have access to faster and more thorough options, so Purify the Grave won't displace Surgical Extraction or Leyline of the Void there. Modern is the format where it might occasionally see fringe play as a cycling cantrip with upside against Persist or Dredge decks, though dedicated hate pieces are stronger.
