Purge destroys a white or artifact creature for two mana — clean, unconditional, and instant-speed. The color restriction bites you often enough in a four-player game that it rarely makes the cut over broader removal, but when white creatures dominate your meta, it overperforms its price tag.
Format Analysis

In Commander, Purge is a metagame call: it answers Stax pieces like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Esper artifact-creature builds efficiently, but folds to any deck not running white or artifacts. Legacy and Vintage have faster, format-warping artifact targets where Purge could theoretically slot in, but neither format wants a narrow sorcery-speed answer at two mana when better options exist. Modern effectively replaced Purge's niche with Path to Exile and Fatal Push years ago. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's math — fine if your opponent's signature spell or commander happens to be white or artifact, irrelevant otherwise.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Purge is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard and postage, not the effect. It won't appreciate; narrow removal spells at this price floor stay there.
