Purelace changes a permanent's or spell's color to white — once, for one mana, with no lasting board presence. Outside of highly specific color-hate or protection setups, the effect is too narrow to justify a slot in any competitive list.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Purelace is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but sees virtually no play in any of them. In Commander, one-shot color-changing effects don't scale to multiplayer — you're spending a card to make one permanent white, against three opponents who may not care. Legacy and Vintage have the raw card power to ignore it entirely. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander: too situational, too low-impact.

Price Context
Current price
$0.46 bulk tier
At $0.46, Purelace sits in bulk territory — priced about right for a card with almost no competitive demand. Don't expect that to change; the effect hasn't found a reliable home in decades, and the price reflects it.
