Psychic Trance lets you counter all spells a player could cast for an entire turn cycle — a soft lock, not just a tempo play. Four mana is a real ask, but the effect scales hard in multiplayer where neutralizing one player's entire turn can swing a game.

Commander is where Psychic Trance has any real home — shutting down a single opponent's turn is far more impactful at a four-player table than in a heads-up game, and blue control shells that want to protect a combo or survive a threat-dense turn have genuine use for it. In Legacy and Vintage, the competition at four mana is brutal and the singleton-style effect is too narrow against interactive decks that can play around it or win before it resolves. Oathbreaker is legal but shares Commander's dynamic at a smaller scale; whether it makes the cut depends entirely on how often you need a full-turn shutdown over a cheaper, more flexible counterspell.

Price Context
Current price
$0.32 bulk tier
At $0.32, Psychic Trance is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard and shipping, not the effect. Casual interest keeps it from hitting true zero, but don't expect the price to move unless a prominent Commander content creator builds around it.
