Psychic Symbiont enters, drains an opponent's hand by one, and replaces itself — three meaningful effects stapled to a single ETB trigger. Six mana is the honest cost, and at that price point you need an engine that reuses the trigger to justify the slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Psychic Symbiont is a Commander card through and through — the format's slower pace and multiplayer politics make a discard-plus-draw ETB worth more than it looks in a 1v1 race. Blink and flicker shells that replay ETBs repeatedly are where Psychic Symbiont earns its keep, since a single cast at six mana is roughly fair but not exciting. In Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer it's simply too slow and too low-impact against focused strategies, and it will never see meaningful play there. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's DNA that the same blink-value logic applies, though the smaller deck size and faster games make it a marginal include.

Price Context
Current price
$0.08 bulk tier
At $0.08, Psychic Symbiont is deep bulk — buy a playset for the cost of a pack of gum. That price is stable by definition: there's no demand shock that moves a six-mana Common, so don't expect it to climb.
