Primordial Ooze card art
Primordial Ooze gets bigger every turn for free — the catch is that it must attack each turn it can, and if you don't pay its escalating upkeep cost, it deals its own power to you. In the right shell that forces it to swing into a clear path and keeps the life payment manageable, it's a legitimate threat that snowballs out of hand fast.

Commander is where Primordial Ooze has the most room to breathe — over a long game it can reach double-digit power, and politics or evasion-granting effects let you point it at the right opponent each turn. Legacy and Vintage are both legal formats, but a vanilla-ish beater with a self-damage rider has never had a competitive home there; faster threats and better payoffs push it out immediately. Oathbreaker is legal as well, but the compressed game length limits how large Primordial Ooze realistically gets before the game ends.
