Primeval Force puts a 8/8 trampler on the board for five mana — the catch is sacrificing a Forest every upkeep or sacrificing the creature itself, which makes it a ticking clock in any deck that can't keep feeding it lands. Run it in a deck that generates Forest tokens or has landfall recursion, and the downside nearly disappears; anywhere else, it's a liability dressed as a threat.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Primeval Force is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it sees virtually no competitive play in any 60-card format — an 8/8 with an upkeep sacrifice clause simply can't compete with what Legacy and Modern offer at five mana. Commander is the only realistic home, where the multiplayer pace gives you time to set up Forest recursion and where an 8/8 trampler is still a meaningful threat on the board. In Oathbreaker the faster clock makes the land sacrifice far more punishing, so it's a fringe inclusion there at best.

Price Context
Current price
$0.75 bulk tier
At $0.75, Primeval Force is deep bulk — cheap enough to slot in without a second thought if your Titania or Gitrog deck wants another landfall payoff. Bulk rares with narrow applications rarely climb, so don't expect this to move.
