Primalcrux card art
Primalcrux enters as a Elemental with power and toughness equal to the number of green mana symbols among permanents you control — in a mono-green devotion shell, it regularly lands as a 10/10 or larger for six mana. The ceiling is absurd, and the floor is still a sizeable body; this is one of the most explosive payoffs green devotion has.

Commander is where Primalcrux does its best work — mono-green devotion decks can reliably land it as a 10/10 or larger by turn five or six, and its Elemental typing connects it to tribal support. In Legacy and Vintage it is legal but sees no competitive play; six mana for a vanilla-ish body, however large, cannot compete with the formats' interaction density and speed. Modern is the same story: the card is legal, but green devotion shells there prefer Aspect of Hydra or Nykthos payoffs that demand less setup. Primalcrux is built for the multiplayer grind where you have time to build a devotion base and opponents can't counter everything.

Budget Alternatives

Cheaper options that do most of the same work

Gigantosaurus fills a comparable role — six mana, mono-green, and a flat 10/10 — without the devotion dependency, at a lower price point, though it contributes nothing to your own devotion count the way Primalcrux does with its triple-green cost. Dungrove Elder is cheaper still and scales with Forests rather than pips, making it more consistent in ramp builds but far weaker in dense-pip devotion shells where Primalcrux shines.

Price Context

Current price

$5.12 mid tier

At $5.12, Primalcrux sits in the mid tier — affordable enough to slot into budget mono-green builds without hesitation. It's a casual staple with a stable price; demand is steady from devotion players, and there's no obvious reprint pressure that would tank the value.
