Press into Service steals a creature until end of turn and taps it, then hands you a 2/2 Zombie token as a parting gift — all for six mana at sorcery speed. That rate is too slow for competitive tables, but in casual Commander the two-for-one swing plus a body left behind makes it a real threat when timed on an opponent's best attacker.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Press into Service has any real home — the singleton format's slower average pace gives a six-mana sorcery room to breathe, and stealing a commander or game-ending creature for a full combat turn can simply win the game on the spot. Outside Commander, the card sees essentially no play: Modern, Pioneer, Legacy, and Vintage all have faster, cheaper steal effects that make Press into Service irrelevant in those formats. Oathbreaker is legal but shares Commander's logic — it's fine if your curve supports it, unplayable if your meta is tuned.

Price Context
Current price
$0.09 bulk tier
At $0.09, Press into Service is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a commons box rather than buy. That price is stable because demand is low and supply is enormous; don't expect movement in either direction.
