Postmortem Lunge puts a creature that just died back into play with haste for one turn — that's an extra attack, an extra trigger, or a completed combo at instant speed. The exile-instead-of-graveyard clause is the real cost, so run it only when the immediate effect is worth more than future recursion.

In Commander, Postmortem Lunge earns its slot in combo decks that need one more crack at a key creature — think re-triggering an enters-the-battlefield effect or pushing through a lethal attack after a blocker trade. Legacy and Vintage give it a faster, more hostile environment where a one-turn reanimation at instant speed can close a game, but dedicated reanimation suites in those formats usually outclass it. Modern sees it occasionally in fringe combo shells where the phyrexian mana cost means black mana isn't strictly required. It's a card with a narrow job; in formats where that job is available, it does it cleanly.

Price Context
Current price
$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Postmortem Lunge is firmly bulk — easy to pick up without a second thought. The price is unlikely to move much given the card's narrow application, but at this tier you're not buying it for value, you're buying it because it fits the slot.
