Platoon Dispenser produces a 1/1 Soldier token every time you cast a noncreature spell and draws you a card whenever a tapped artifact is untapped — two distinct engines stapled to one five-mana artifact. The cost is real, but in any deck that runs a critical mass of artifacts and noncreature spells, Platoon Dispenser earns back its investment within two turns of hitting the table.

Alibou, Ancient Witness
Alibou, Ancient Witness triggers off tapped artifacts attacking, and Platoon Dispenser feeds that loop by churning out tokens while drawing cards every time those artifacts untap — the two cards form a self-sustaining engine that generates both card advantage and board presence in the same breath.

Commander is where Platoon Dispenser does its best work — the format's longer games give it time to generate tokens and card draw at scale, and artifact-heavy strategies are common enough that it slots cleanly into a wide range of decks. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer, five mana for an artifact that doesn't immediately impact the board is too slow to see serious play, and the token and draw triggers require specific deck architecture to pay off. Legacy and Vintage can access it on paper, but those formats have no interest in this rate. Platoon Dispenser is a Commander card through and through, and that's the only context worth building around it.

$1.00 cheap tier
At $1.00, Platoon Dispenser sits in the sweet spot where you're paying almost nothing for a card with genuine constructed upside in Commander. Cards at this tier rarely spike dramatically unless a new commander pushes the archetype into the spotlight, so expect the price to stay flat unless artifact-token strategies get a high-profile breakout.
