Planar Genesis
Instant
Look at the top four cards of your library. You may put a land card from among them onto the battlefield tapped. If you don't, put a card from among them into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Planar Genesis puts a land token into play tapped for every land you control — doubling your land base on the spot — and Quandrix, the Proof turns that flood of tokens into immediate card advantage. The cost is steep enough that you need a big-mana shell to support it, but the on-board swing when it resolves is decisive.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Quandrix, the Proof
Quandrix, the Proof cares about land counts and token proliferation, and Planar Genesis delivers both simultaneously — the token flood directly fuels Quandrix's ability to draw cards and grow counters at scale.

Kalamax, the Stormsire
Kalamax, the Stormsire copies the first instant you cast each turn, so any instant-speed setup that lets you fire Planar Genesis while Kalamax is tapped doubles the already-massive land doubling effect, compounding the board state instantly.

Nine-Fingers Keene
Nine-Fingers Keene rewards you for having lots of lands in play, and Planar Genesis is one of the fastest ways to hit a critical land mass — dropping it mid-game can unlock Keene's payoffs a full turn cycle earlier than normal.

Jyoti, Moag Ancient
Jyoti, Moag Ancient generates value from Forest tokens and land enters-the-battlefield triggers, making Planar Genesis a near-instant payoff that populates the board with fresh trigger sources the moment it resolves.

Ureni, the Song Unending
Ureni, the Song Unending builds toward land-based recursion and value loops, and Planar Genesis provides the sudden land density spike that lets Ureni's engines hit critical mass well ahead of schedule.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the clear home for Planar Genesis — the singleton format's longer game lines and abundance of land-synergy commanders make the high mana investment worthwhile. In Legacy and Vintage the card is legal but practically invisible; those formats don't have the time or the payoff structure to reward a do-nothing sorcery at this cost. Oathbreaker is the only other Constructed-adjacent format where it sees play, and only in dedicated land-count shells. Treat Planar Genesis as a Commander card that happens to be legal elsewhere.

Price Context
Current price
$0.40 bulk tier
At $0.40, Planar Genesis sits firmly in bulk territory, making it a zero-guilt include for any land-synergy build that can support the mana cost. Bulk rares with narrow applications tend to stay cheap, so there's no urgency to stock up — grab a copy when you need it.
