Planar Birth returns every basic land from every graveyard to the battlefield tapped — a one-card recovery from a Armageddon or Devastation that can simultaneously punish opponents who ran fetchlands too aggressively. At one white mana, the rate is absurd; the catch is that it only hits basics, so non-basic-heavy decks get nothing.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the natural home for Planar Birth — mass land destruction exists in the format, games go long enough that graveyards fill with fetched basics, and the political upside of restoring your opponents' basics while keeping ahead yourself is real in four-player pods. In Legacy and Vintage, the card is legal but essentially unplayed; those formats move too fast for a symmetrical land-recovery spell to matter, and the graveyard rarely holds enough basics to justify a slot. Oathbreaker is a legal home where the compressed game length limits its ceiling, but land-destruction-focused Oathbreaker builds could find it as a recovery piece.

Price Context
Current price
$3.44 cheap tier
At $3.44, Planar Birth sits at the low end of the cheap tier — reasonable for a niche white spell that does something no other card does at one mana. It's a narrow card with a small audience, so the price is unlikely to climb without a reprint or a new commander that makes land destruction loops mainstream.
