Piety taps all creatures target player controls until end of turn — a one-mana fog variant that neutralizes a single attacker or gum up a whole board for a turn. The ceiling is real in combat-heavy metas, but a sorcery that only affects one player and leaves no lasting board presence is rarely worth a slot outside highly specific white weenie or pillow-fort builds.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Piety is a narrow combat trick — it can save you from one player's alpha strike for a single white mana, but it does nothing about the other two opponents and evaporates at end of turn. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters; those formats run interaction that wins games, not buys a turn. Pauper is the most realistic home, where one-mana tempo plays matter more and white aggro mirrors exist, though even there it sits on the fringe. Piety is legal in Oathbreaker, but the two-player-adjacent nature of that format makes it marginally more playable than in Commander pods.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Piety is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not the effect. That price won't move; there's no competitive demand pulling it up, and it will stay a bulk common indefinitely.
