Phyrexian Purge wipes any number of target creatures off the board for 3 life each — no mana required beyond the initial cost, no targeting restriction by color or type. The catch is that life payment scales with how many threats you need to answer, so it rewards aggressive use and punishes timid spot-removal thinking.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Phyrexian Purge fills a niche: it answers multiple indestructible, hexproof-from-spells, or otherwise problem creatures in a single card when targeted removal fails and a full board wipe is overkill. Legacy and Vintage have access to it but rarely want it — those formats move too fast for a three-mana sorcery that asks you to pay life on top, and Fatal Push or Swords to Plowshares handle most threats more efficiently. Phyrexian Purge is almost entirely a Commander card in practice, where life totals are padded at 40 and surgical multi-creature removal is genuinely hard to find at instant speed.

Price Context
Current price
$1.69 cheap tier
At $1.69, Phyrexian Purge sits in the cheap tier — low enough that budget is never a reason to skip it if the effect fits your deck. Niche sorcery-speed removal rarely climbs in price, so don't expect the number to move meaningfully in either direction.
