Pharagax Giant enters and forces a choice: each opponent takes 5 damage or lets you draw 2 cards — either way, you profit. A 5/5 body for five mana is acceptable rate, but the triggered ability is the whole reason to run it.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Pharagax Giant scales well — three opponents each making the choice multiplies the value, and even if everyone pays the damage you've dealt 15 across the table for free. In Pauper it's a legal common, but five mana for a vanilla-adjacent body with a one-time trigger is too slow for that format's efficient creature suite. Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer are non-starters; competitive constructed has no interest in a five-mana 5/5 with no immediate board impact beyond a single trigger. Commander is unambiguously where Pharagax Giant belongs.

$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Pharagax Giant is deep bulk — you're picking it out of a commons box, not a binder. Demand is too narrow for the price to move meaningfully in either direction, so grab a copy whenever you need it and don't think twice about it.
