Phantom Train card art
Phantom Train enters swinging — it deals damage to a creature or planeswalker and produces a Treasure on the way in, packing immediate board impact and mana acceleration into a single card. The cost is real: five mana for an artifact creature is a lot to ask, and outside of Celes, Rune Knight or sacrifice-hungry commanders like Teysa, Opulent Oligarch, that rate doesn't justify the slot.

Teysa, Opulent Oligarch turns every token and death trigger into value, and Phantom Train delivers both — a Treasure to sacrifice and a body to feed the engine — in one package.

Phantom Train is legal across every major constructed format, but it doesn't show up in any of them outside Commander. Five mana for a 3/3 that pings and makes a Treasure is too slow and too low-impact for Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer, where that slot demands an immediate game-warping threat. In Commander, the calculus is friendlier — the Treasure accelerates your next turn, the damage pings down a planeswalker or softens a blocker, and sacrifice synergies give the body a second use. It's still a niche role-player rather than a staple, but Commander is the one format where it earns consideration.

Price Context

Current price

$0.10 bulk tier

At $0.10, Phantom Train is deep bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in. Don't expect that price to move; it's a casual-only card with narrow application and no competitive demand pulling it upward.
