In Commander, Pestilent Kathari earns its seat in Jund or Grixis counter-synergy builds — Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons and Kresh the Bloodbraided are the obvious homes — where every -1/-1 counter placed generates additional value. In Pauper, a flying deathtouch creature with a repeatable ping ability is legitimately threatening on a budget, and the common frame means it competes for slots in Infect or removal-dense black-green shells.
