Perish the Thought strips a card from an opponent's hand and shuffles their graveyard back into their library — two disruption modes stapled together at three mana. It's not the most efficient discard spell, but the incidental graveyard erasure makes it pull double duty in metas where recursion matters.

In Commander, Perish the Thought occupies a niche role in discard-focused black shells where hitting hands and neutering graveyard strategies simultaneously is worth the three-mana investment. Pauper is where it sees the most competitive consideration, since the graveyard-shuffling clause can answer entire win conditions at common rarity. In Legacy and Vintage, three mana is simply too slow for dedicated discard — Thoughtseize and Hymn to Tourach exist — so Perish the Thought never makes the cut there. It's legal in both but effectively irrelevant.

At $0.09, Perish the Thought is deep bulk — grab a copy without thinking about it. Bulk commons with narrow use cases don't appreciate, so treat this as a utility pickup, not a hold.
