Pattern Matcher tutors any creature that shares a creature type with one you already control directly onto the battlefield — that's a free Chord of Calling effect stapled to a 3/3 body for five mana. The rate is real in tribal Commander decks; outside of that context, it's too narrow to matter.

In Commander, Pattern Matcher earns a slot in any tribal deck that can reliably have a creature in play by turn five — it converts board presence into a free tutor and a body simultaneously. In competitive non-rotating formats like Legacy and Vintage, five mana for a 3/3 tutor is far too slow; fair tribal decks don't exist at those tables, and degenerate ones don't need Pattern Matcher. Modern and Pioneer have enough tribal redundancy that dedicated tribal builds could technically use it, but the mana cost keeps it off most lists. The sweet spot is casual Commander, where the battlecruiser pace makes the five-mana ask reasonable and the tutoring effect is genuinely powerful.

Price Context
Current price
$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Pattern Matcher is deep bulk — you'll find it in bulk bins before you'd need to order it. The price fits: it's a niche tribal tutor with no crossover appeal, so don't expect it to move unless a high-profile tribal commander drives sudden demand.
