Part the Waterveil gives you an extra turn and leaves a 6/6 Awaken token behind — that combination of tempo and board presence is what separates it from cheaper extra-turn spells. Six mana is steep, but Narset, Enlightened Master hits it for free, and Panoptic Mirror turns it into a repeating engine that ends games.

Narset, Enlightened Master
Narset, Enlightened Master attacks and exiles Part the Waterveil without paying the six mana, which means the Awaken body is pure upside on top of the extra combat and turn — it's one of the highest-upside hits in a Narset deck.

Edric, Spymaster of Trest
Edric, Spymaster of Trest wants as many extra turns as it can chain, and Part the Waterveil fits neatly into that package as a finisher that also drops a body to swing through for more draw triggers.

Commander is where Part the Waterveil does its best work — the Awaken body matters more in a multiplayer game where the extra turn alone won't close things out, and the six-mana cost is easier to absorb with ramp or cheat past with a triggered ability. In Modern and Pioneer it's essentially unplayable competitively; faster extra-turn spells at lower cost dominate those formats and don't need a 6/6 to justify themselves. Legacy and Vintage have access to broken enablers that can make any extra-turn spell degenerate, but Part the Waterveil isn't the one those formats reach for. Stick to Commander, where the full Awaken package earns its cost.
