Owlbear

Commander is where Owlbear does its best work, specifically in tribal bear lists where Ayula, Queen Among Bears turns every creature drop into an action and a 5/5 trampler with card draw upside is exactly the kind of self-sufficient threat those decks want. In Pauper, Owlbear is legal but competes in a format where five mana for a vanilla-adjacent creature is too slow — the damage-trigger draw rarely materializes before the game ends. Modern and Pioneer have faster clocks and better five-drops across the board, so Owlbear sees essentially no competitive play there. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters for obvious reasons.
