Overrun ends games — +3/+3 and trample across the board at instant speed's sorcery equivalent turns any token swarm into a lethal attack. Five mana is the honest cost, and in Commander that's exactly what green token decks are happy to pay when the math is already over.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Emmara, Soul of the Accord
Emmara, Soul of the Accord floods the board with tapped Soldier tokens every time she attacks or taps for any effect, and Overrun converts that critical mass into a one-shot kill the turn you decide to stop building.

Shroofus Sproutsire
Shroofus Sproutsire generates a steady stream of creature tokens through its spore-growth engine, and Overrun turns that incremental board presence into a lethal swing before opponents can stabilize.

Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury
Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury builds a board of Elf tokens through her +2, and Overrun gives those small bodies the power and trample to close out a game that Freyalise's creature generation alone can't finish.

Edric, Spymaster of Trest
Edric, Spymaster of Trest fills the board with evasive one-power creatures to draw cards, and Overrun solves the one problem that shell has — those small attackers deal almost no damage without a pump.

Ayula, Queen Among Bears
Ayula, Queen Among Bears rewards you for assembling a board of Bears, and Overrun gives the tribe a finisher that turns a mid-sized creature count into a lethal trample attack without needing any individual Bear to be large.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Overrun lives — 40 life and multiplayer politics mean games go long enough to build the board state that makes a global +3/+3 and trample actually lethal. In 60-card formats like Modern or Pioneer, it sits on the wrong side of the curve: five mana is slow, sorcery speed is punishing, and linear green aggro already closes games before that turn arrives. Legacy has the same problem amplified by the speed of the format. Overrun is legal in Standard when it appears in a Standard-legal set, but five-mana sorceries face stiff competition from permanents that win on their own. Oathbreaker functions close enough to Commander that the same logic applies — a token or creature-heavy signature spell or board state makes Overrun a clean finisher.

Price Context
Current price
$0.25 bulk tier
At $0.25, Overrun is bulk — you're paying almost nothing for a card that has closed out Commander games for decades. That price is stable because supply is plentiful and the card sees essentially no competitive play outside Commander, so don't expect movement in either direction.
