Outrage Shaman enters the battlefield and deals 3 damage to target creature an opponent controls — a Lightning Bolt stapled to a body, paid for in full at five mana. That rate is too slow for competitive formats and just barely acceptable in Commander, where the ETB trigger can be repeated with blink or bounce effects.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Outrage Shaman is a Commander card through and through — the format's slower pace and creature-heavy tables are the only place a five-mana 3/3 with a single ETB removal trigger can justify a slot. In Legacy, Modern, and Vintage it is simply unplayable; the rate is embarrassing next to dedicated removal spells at one or two mana. In Commander, it earns consideration specifically in ETB-abuse decks that can blink, bounce, or reanimate it to reuse the trigger — outside that context, cheaper options like Flametongue Kavu do the same job better.
