Oreplate Pangolin card art
Oreplate Pangolin puts a sizeable body on the board and generates +1/+1 counters as a byproduct of spending mana — exactly what counter-synergy decks want from a mid-range creature. The payoff is real enough that Animation Module turns every activation into a token factory, but outside dedicated counter shells this is just a fat vanilla.

Format Analysis

Oreplate Pangolin is legal across every major format, but it only earns a slot in Commander, where the game goes long enough for its counter-generation to compound and where synergy payoffs are dense enough to justify a five-mana creature that doesn't immediately win the board. In powered eternal formats like Legacy and Vintage, five mana for a creature with no immediate impact is a non-starter. Modern and Pioneer have enough efficient threats that Oreplate Pangolin can't compete for slots outside the most dedicated +1/+1 counter brews, and even there it's fringe. Pauper's card pool is narrower, but the format is fast enough that this cost-to-effect ratio still doesn't clear the bar.

Price Context

Current price

$0.09 bulk tier

At $0.09, Oreplate Pangolin is deep bulk — you're picking this out of a common box or throwing it in as a filler order. Bulk stays bulk; don't expect the price to move unless a future set creates a breakout counter-synergy commander that pulls demand upward.
