Orcish Farmer lets you shrink an opponent's land by swapping its basic land type for a worse one — a cute trick that does almost nothing in a format where most mana bases are nonbasic-heavy. The cost of a deck slot is too high for an effect this narrow.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Orcish Farmer is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but sees effectively no play in any of them. In Commander, the effect is nearly irrelevant — most decks run few basics, and even against those that do, changing a Forest to a Plains rarely disrupts anything meaningful. Legacy and Vintage both move too fast for a three-mana do-nothing creature to register. Pauper is the one format where basic-land density is higher, but there are simply better ways to apply pressure than retooling a single land type.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Orcish Farmer sits firmly in bulk territory, and that price reflects the demand accurately. There's no competitive context that would push this higher, so it's a quarter-bin card that stays there.
