Opportunist turns every attacking creature into a drain trigger, generating incremental life-loss across the table without requiring any setup beyond your own combat step. At one mana, the entry cost is trivial — the floor is real value, and the ceiling scales directly with how wide you go.

Commander is where Opportunist earns its slot, particularly in black-based aristocrats, token swarm, or Rakdos attack-trigger decks that already want creatures in combat every turn — the drain stacks across multiple opponents simultaneously, which no 60-card format can replicate. Legacy and Vintage are technically legal homes, but one-mana 1/1s that only drain on attack don't compete in those environments, and Opportunist will never see serious play there. Oathbreaker shares Commander's multiplayer math and could use it similarly, though the faster game speed means you have fewer turns to accumulate triggers.

Price Context
Current price
$0.24 bulk tier
At $0.24, Opportunist is deep bulk — pick it up without hesitation if the shell fits. Bulk rares with narrow applications rarely spike, so don't expect this to move unless a new commander explicitly rewards repeated drain-on-attack effects.
