Obsessive Astronomer turns a discard trigger into a scry-and-loot engine, giving you a meaningful selection effect every time you pitch a card. The cost is a one-mana body that dies to a stiff breeze — run it because the ability matters, not the stats.

In Commander, Obsessive Astronomer is a role-player in discard-matters decks — it won't make the cut in generic builds, but in Anje Falkenrath or any shell that discards multiple times per turn, the repeated scry-and-loot effect compounds quickly. In constructed formats like Modern and Pioneer it's competing against a much denser field of one-drops and rarely survives long enough to generate more than one trigger, making it too fragile to see serious play. Legacy and Vintage have no use for it given the raw power level of those formats. Commander is definitively where Obsessive Astronomer belongs.

$0.13 bulk tier
At $0.13, Obsessive Astronomer is deep bulk — buy a playset without thinking about it. Price movement on a common this cheap is essentially nonexistent, so grab it for the effect alone.
