In Commander, Oaken Brawler finds a real home in artifact- or enchantment-heavy decks where the hand is naturally full of noncreature permanents — think Breya, Etherium Shaper artifact builds or enchantress strategies that keep a grip of auras and sagas. Outside those shells, a 4/3 trample for four competes poorly against the card quality available at that slot. In Pauper, where the common card pool is more constrained, a conditionally large trampler has more room to breathe, but the hand-size dependency is still a real cost at a format where resources are tight. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters — the competition at four mana is simply too fierce. Oaken Brawler is a narrow role-player, not a format staple.
