Nimraiser Paladin hits the board as a 5/5 menace and immediately returns a creature from your graveyard — you get a threat and a recursion trigger stapled together for six mana. The cost is real: six mana is a lot to ask in any competitive shell, and the recursion ceiling tops out at five-mana creatures.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Nimraiser Paladin is most at home — six mana is acceptable in a format full of ramp, and graveyard-focused decks like Karador, Ghost Chieftain or Meren of Clan Nel Toth treat the enters-the-battlefield recursion as a free value trigger. In Modern and Pioneer, it's simply too slow; a 5/5 for six that doesn't win the game immediately can't compete with what those formats present by turn four. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters for the same reason, only more so. Oathbreaker splits the difference — playable in grind-oriented builds, but only if your signature spell generates enough early momentum to reach six mana alive.

Price Context
Current price
$0.24 bulk tier
At $0.24, Nimraiser Paladin is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick out of a dollar box without thinking twice. That price is stable by definition: there's no competitive demand to push it up, and it's not going anywhere.
