Nimble Mongoose is a one-mana 3/3 shroud threat — one of the most efficient stats-per-mana ratios in the game once your graveyard hits seven cards. The cost is real: threshold dependency means it arrives as a 1/1 and stays fragile until you've done the graveyard work.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Legacy is where Nimble Mongoose made its name, anchoring Threshold and Canadian Threshold lists as an uncounterable, untargetable clock that blue-based control simply cannot answer with spot removal. In Pauper it retains that same appeal, pairing cleanly with cheap cantrips to hit threshold by turn two or three. Modern has largely passed it by — a 3/3 shroud doesn't match the speed of the format's threats, and there are better one-drops competing for the slot. In Commander, Nimble Mongoose is a fringe inclusion at best: shroud cuts off your own buff spells, the singleton graveyard payoff doesn't scale to multiplayer, and a 3/3 body is irrelevant at a four-player table.

Price Context
Current price
$0.86 bulk tier
At $0.86, Nimble Mongoose sits at the top of the bulk tier — cheap to pick up, with no meaningful price pressure pushing it higher. Legacy demand keeps it from hitting true bulk-bin pricing, but it's not a card you'd hold for value.
