Nim Abomination is a 3/3 for three mana that punishes you at the start of each upkeep if you don't control an Artifact — a condition that's trivially easy to fail and costs you two life when you do. The upside doesn't justify the tax; there are better three-drop bodies in black that don't require artifact density to break even.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Nim Abomination is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but sees essentially no play in any of them. In Commander it finds a narrow home in artifact-heavy black shells — Breya, Etherium Shaper or Tymna/Silas Renn builds — where the upkeep trigger is a non-issue, but even there it's competing against a deep pool of more impactful three-drops. In Legacy and Modern the bar for a three-mana 3/3 with a downside is simply too high to clear. Oathbreaker is its most forgiving arena, but only inside a dedicated artifact strategy.

Price Context
Current price
$0.17 bulk tier
At $0.17, Nim Abomination is deep bulk — the kind of card that ends up in a box rather than a sleeve. It holds that price floor as a trade throw-in, not as a card with meaningful demand, and nothing on the horizon changes that.
