Nightmare Sower puts a 1/1 flying Faerie token into play the moment it enters — immediate board presence, no setup required. Obyra, Dreaming Duelist turns that free token into a damage trigger before your opponent can respond, which is exactly why the card slots into Faerie strategies over slower token makers.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Obyra, Dreaming Duelist
Obyra, Dreaming Duelist pings an opponent whenever a Faerie enters under your control, so Nightmare Sower's enters-the-battlefield token is a free damage trigger stapled to a two-power flier — two events for the price of one spell.

Maralen, Fae Ascendant
Maralen, Fae Ascendant rewards stacking the board with Faeries, and Nightmare Sower delivers two bodies in one card — the Sower itself and the token — accelerating the tribal count that Maralen's payoffs care about.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Nightmare Sower is legal across every major constructed format but has found essentially no traction outside Commander — the rate just isn't competitive enough for 60-card environments where two-mana 2/1 fliers need to do more than generate a 1/1. In Commander, it earns its slot specifically in Faerie tribal builds where every Faerie etb has a payoff attached to it. Outside of that tribal niche, a generic Dimir or flying-matters deck has better options at the same cost. Oathbreaker offers the same tribal ceiling as Commander if your planeswalker runs a Faerie theme.

$0.19 bulk tier
At $0.19, Nightmare Sower is deep bulk — pick it up without hesitation if a Faerie deck wants it. Demand is narrow enough that the price isn't going anywhere; this is a card you grab out of a bulk bin, not one you track.
