Nightfire Giant enters as a 4/3 that pings any target for 2 damage every turn you control a Mountain — a repeating removal engine stapled to a respectable body. The seven-mana cost is the ceiling, not a dealbreaker, but it means Nightfire Giant belongs in decks that can use that trigger immediately rather than wait a full turn cycle to see value.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Nightfire Giant actually has a home — seven mana is acceptable in a format that regularly hits ten, and a free Shock every turn adds up over a long game, especially in Rakdos or Gruul shells with Mountains to spare. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern or Pioneer, it simply doesn't make the cut: seven mana buys you game-ending threats, and a 4/3 with a slow ping trigger won't survive the scrutiny. Legacy and Vintage have even less patience for it. Oathbreaker sits close enough to Commander's pace that Nightfire Giant could see fringe play in the right red-heavy build, but it's a stretch.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Nightfire Giant is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not demand. That price is stable in the sense that it can't really fall further, but don't expect any upward movement without a reprint in a heavily-played product or a sudden spike in seven-mana Giants tribal.
