Night Terrors trades a card and three mana to strip a nonland card from an opponent's hand at sorcery speed — a clean one-for-one discard effect with no upside stapled on. Targeted hand disruption at three mana is simply outclassed in every format that can run better options.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Night Terrors is a tough sell: discard scales poorly in a four-player game where you're picking one card from one opponent's hand while the other two untouched players rebuild freely. Pauper is where Night Terrors has the most legitimate footing — the card pool is shallow enough that sorcery-speed discard at three mana can matter in slower black control shells. Legacy and Vintage have access to Hymn to Tourach, Thoughtseize, and Duress, which all do more for less, so Night Terrors doesn't register there. It's legal in Oathbreaker but faces the same Commander-style objection: in multiplayer, a single targeted discard at three mana is too narrow to justify the slot.

Price Context
Current price
$0.08 bulk tier
At $0.08, Night Terrors is deep bulk — floor pricing that reflects how rarely it gets slotted even in casual lists. Don't expect the price to move; there's no competitive demand and reprints are irrelevant at this level.
