Giving a commander flying or lifelink at instant speed — repeatedly, without expending cards — is exactly the kind of incremental advantage that grinds out longer games. Outside Commander, New Prahv Guildmage rarely sees play; Modern and Pioneer have access to cheaper, more efficient threat-modification tools, and the four-mana activation cost is prohibitive in formats where the game often ends by turn five.
