Nazar, the Velvet Fang turns every creature you control into a lifelink and deathtouch machine at instant speed — that combination makes any blocker trade up and any attacker drain the table. A three-mana activated ability is the cost, and in Commander that's a real ask every turn, but the payoff on a single key creature can swing a combat step entirely.

Commander is where Nazar, the Velvet Fang actually has a home — the format's longer games give you enough turns to recoup the activation cost, and life totals starting at 40 make lifelink a meaningful recovery tool rather than a rounding error. Legacy and Vintage are both legal on paper, but a three-mana equipment that doesn't equip for free and doesn't win the game immediately has no competitive footing there. Oathbreaker is the one other format worth mentioning: slower than Legacy but faster than Commander, so Nazar can still find a window in the right shell.
