Nath of the Gilt-Leaf

Commander is where Nath of the Gilt-Leaf actually lives — the multiplayer table multiplies every triggered token since each opponent discarding generates a separate trigger, turning a single Windfall into a token flood. In Legacy and Vintage, the card is technically legal but competes in formats where a five-mana creature with no immediate board protection is simply too slow against degenerate turn-one and turn-two threats. Modern is the same story: the discard synergies that make Nath dangerous in EDH don't map onto a 60-card format built to end games before turn five. Oathbreaker offers another shell where the token-plus-discard angle can function, especially with a discard-oriented signature spell, though the smaller game size reduces the multiplier effect that makes Nath so powerful across three opponents.
