Murderous Compulsion card art
Murderous Compulsion destroys a tapped creature outright — no targeting restriction, no conditions beyond the tap check — for two mana at sorcery speed. Outside of Anje Falkenrath madness builds where it costs one and replaces itself in hand, the sorcery speed and tapped-only limitation make it a liability in most lists.

Anje Falkenrath

80.4% of decks · synergy 0.79

Murderous Compulsion is a core piece in Anje Falkenrath decks because the madness cost drops it to one mana, Anje's discard ability triggers the madness, and you're killing a tapped blocker while cycling through your deck — all in one motion.

Format Analysis

Murderous Compulsion is a niche card in every format it's legal in, and the honest answer is that Pauper is where it sees the most legitimate play — tapped creatures are common enough in that format's combat-heavy, go-wide metas that the restriction bites less. In Commander, it's almost exclusively an Anje Falkenrath card; the tapped-only clause is too punishing in a singleton format where answers need to be flexible. Modern, Legacy, and Vintage have cleaner removal at similar or lower costs, and Murderous Compulsion rarely competes there.

Price Context

Current price

$0.09 bulk tier

At $0.09, Murderous Compulsion is deep bulk — buy a playset for the cost of a sleeve. That price is stable because demand is narrow and supply is plentiful; don't expect movement in either direction.
