Mouth of the Storm wipes the board of all creatures and then puts that same number of random creatures from any library directly into play under your control — the swing in board state is immediate and enormous. The catch is the cost: it requires sacrificing a creature plus paying mana equal to the number of creatures destroyed, so it rewards going wide and punishes running it on an empty board.

Commander is where Mouth of the Storm lives — the combination of wide token strategies, political chaos, and opponents running creature-dense decks means the activation cost scales up fast and the payoff lands hard. In 1v1 formats like Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer, the sorcery-speed wrath that requires a sacrifice and a variable mana payment is simply too slow and conditional against focused interaction; dedicated sweepers or threats do the job more reliably. Standard has the card legal but the same problems apply at a smaller scale. Mouth of the Storm is a multiplayer card at heart: the more creatures across the table, the more free creatures you get, and in a four-player pod that math can be backbreaking.

Price Context
Current price
$0.12 bulk tier
At $0.12, Mouth of the Storm is deep bulk — the price of a sleeve, not a slot decision. At that floor, price stability is irrelevant; pick up copies whenever the card fits a list without a second thought.
