Most Valuable Slayer card art
Most Valuable Slayer rewards the player who deals combat damage to the most opponents in a turn with a free card and a token — a payoff that scales hard in multiplayer. Three mana for a 2/2 with upside is the cost, and the upside only triggers if you're attacking wide, so this card earns its slot in go-wide aggro and not much else.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Most Valuable Slayer actually does something — the three-opponent table makes hitting the 'most opponents damaged' threshold realistic, and the card-plus-token reward compounds over a long game. In 1v1 formats like Modern, Pioneer, or Legacy, the condition collapses to 'damage your one opponent,' which any combat step achieves, but a 2/2 for three with a delayed draw is simply too slow to compete with what those formats offer. Pauper is legal but the same problem applies: the rate is poor by that format's efficiency standards. Standard is the one constructed environment where Most Valuable Slayer could see fringe play in a wide-board aggro shell, but it would need consistent multiattack angles to justify the slot.

Price Context

Current price

$0.06 bulk tier

At $0.06, Most Valuable Slayer is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick up as a throw-in rather than a purchase. Bulk rares with narrow conditions don't tend to move unless a synergy deck breaks out, so don't expect the price to budge.
