Mortipede gives your creatures deathtouch for a turn at instant speed — cheap disruption that turns any blocker into a trade threat or pushes through lethal damage in combat. Four mana for a one-shot effect is the ceiling of acceptable, and that's exactly where Mortipede sits: playable in dedicated synergy shells, cuttable everywhere else.

In Commander, Mortipede earns a slot only in decks that compound the deathtouch grant — infect commanders, ping-based engines, or sacrifice loops where the instant-speed timing has real work to do outside of a specific combat trick. In Pauper it competes against a crowded field of cheap deathtouch creatures and combat tricks, so it rarely makes the cut. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters; Mortipede's effect doesn't approach the power threshold those formats demand. The card lives and dies in Commander, and even there the ask is narrow.
