Morphling is a five-mana blue creature that makes itself nearly impossible to kill or block — untapping to dodge removal, gaining shroud, pumping power and toughness on demand, and flying over anything in its way. The cost is that all of it requires blue mana activations, so it taxes your open mana every turn; Mairsil, the Pretender sidesteps that constraint entirely by caging Morphling and using its abilities without needing the creature in play.

Mairsil, the Pretender
Mairsil, the Pretender runs Morphling in over half its decks because caging it hands Mairsil every activated ability — evasion, pseudo-shroud, and a size pump — on a commander that already wants to stack as many broken cage targets as possible.

In Commander, Morphling is a legitimate finisher in blue decks that can hold up mana — it demands an answer every turn and answers most removal on its own. Legacy has access to it but rarely runs it; cheaper threats and counterspell suites have outpaced a five-mana creature that needs activation mana to protect itself. Vintage is the same story: the format's speed and the presence of busted permanents and instants make Morphling a nostalgic curio rather than a live include. Oathbreaker is legal but the 20-life starting total means games end too fast for a five-drop to stabilize a board the way it can in Commander's 40-life slug-fest.

Price data for Morphling isn't currently available in the system, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the latest. Given its age, niche Commander role centered almost entirely on Mairsil, the Pretender, and its absence from competitive formats, copies tend to sit in a modest range — worth picking up if you're building the deck, but there's no urgency otherwise.
