Morbid Curiosity card art
Morbid Curiosity refills your hand equal to the sacrificed permanent's mana value — on a high-cost artifact or creature, that's five to eight cards for three mana. The cost is real: you need something worth sacrificing and a reason to sacrifice it, which is why it slots cleanly into decks already running a sac outlet and a big target rather than decks hunting for draw. Greasefang, Okiba Boss shells, for instance, often have a freshly reanimated Vehicle that's about to die anyway — Morbid Curiosity turns that impending loss into a full grip.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Greasefang, Okiba Boss

Greasefang, Okiba Boss

50.9% of decks · synergy 0.50

Greasefang, Okiba Boss reanimates a Vehicle for one attack, then watches it die at end of turn — Morbid Curiosity converts that mandatory sacrifice into five to eight cards at essentially no additional cost to the game plan. It's in over half of all Greasefang lists for good reason.

02
Xu-Ifit, Osteoharmonist

Xu-Ifit, Osteoharmonist

40.6% of decks · synergy 0.39

Xu-Ifit, Osteoharmonist builds around sacrificing artifacts for value, so Morbid Curiosity slots in as redundant payoff — sac a high-value artifact for its engine trigger, then draw cards equal to what you just gave up.

03
Imskir Iron-Eater

Imskir Iron-Eater

24.1% of decks · synergy 0.23

Imskir Iron-Eater sacrifices artifacts and creatures to deal damage, and Morbid Curiosity closes the loop by turning those same sacrificed permanents into card draw, keeping the hand stocked for more fuel.

04
Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis

Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis

20.1% of decks · synergy 0.20

Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis runs a dense self-mill and graveyard package with large creatures in play, giving Morbid Curiosity high-mana-value targets to sacrifice for maximum card count whenever one of those creatures would die anyway.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer
standard
vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Commander is where Morbid Curiosity earns its keep — the format's larger creatures and expensive artifacts mean you're routinely drawing five or more cards off a single casting, and sacrifice synergies are everywhere. In Modern and Legacy, the card sees essentially no play; efficient draw spells and the absence of a dedicated sac-value shell mean it can't compete with format staples on rate. Pioneer is similarly cold — the format lacks both the mana-sink permanents and the sacrifice payoffs that make Morbid Curiosity click. Oathbreaker is a reasonable home for the same reasons as Commander, especially in black-heavy sac strategies with a high-CMC signature spell or planeswalker that can feed it.

Price Context

Current price

$0.18 bulk tier

At $0.18, Morbid Curiosity is deep bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in or quarter-bin find without a second thought. Bulk status is stable here; the card has a clear role but narrow demand, so don't expect movement in either direction.
